Whether you call them splash pads or spraygrounds, Lexington, NC has incorporated several of these unique warm-weather features within existing parks and neighborhood YMCAs. Spraygrounds are water playgrounds with fixtures and fountains that spray water. They are similar to water play areas typically seen in pools, with one big difference: spraygrounds are not set in standing water. This makes them safer for children. A popular alternative to swimming pools, spraygrounds save resources by recirculating and filtering the water nor do they require lifeguards or staffing. They also make a great alternative to busy or expensive pools in the hot summer months.

The Lexington Aquatic Park Sprayground
The Lexington Aquatic Park is a pool with an adjacent YMCA, restrooms, picnic areas, seating, and a new sprayground. This small park’s sprayground is the perfect size for 15-20 children to enjoy comfortably. The structures are ideally suited for children under 10 because older/taller kids may become bored quite quickly. The sprayground has the following features:
- One umbrella-shaped fountain that pours continuously over kids
- Rectangular bar structure that sprinkles water down on visitors
- Multiple geyser/sprayers for kids to run through and interact with

Washington Park Sprayground
Washington Park in Lexington, NC is a city park with a playground, trails, picnic shelter, restrooms, grills, a water fountain, basketball court, and now a brand new sprayground. This park’s sprayground is the perfect size for 15-20 children to enjoy comfortably. The structures are ideally suited for children under 10 because older/taller kids may become bored quite quickly. The sprayground has the following features:
- One tall angled sprayer that sprays a wide radius
- A tall bucket-topped pole that dumps water buckets
- An arched, rainbow shaped pipe structure that sprays
- Several water geysers that shoot from ground level
