About Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway
Distance: 7.5 Miles
Formerly known as Lake Brandt Greenway, Battleground Rail Trail, and Bicentennial Greenway, this greenway was constructed on the abandoned Atlantic-Yadkin railroad line. For nature lovers, you can spot common and migratory birds, including bald eagles, herons, ospreys, and ducks as you travel down the greenway. Many wildflowers, plants, and trees grow for woodland creatures to play in. You can take a break at the H. Michael Weaver Bridge to enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Brandt.
Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway Connections
Residents and visitors can take a detour off the greenway onto the Nat Greene Trail, Palmetto Trail, or Owl’s Roost Trail. You can also access the Big Loop Trail and Little Loop Trail in Bur-Mil Park from the greenway. The Bicentennial Greenway intersects the Atlantic & Yadkin at the Old Battleground and Lake Brandt road intersection as a sidewalk. From there it continues via sidewalk along Old Battleground to the remainder of the Bicentennial Greenway as an asphalt trail at the old train trestle bridge.
