About The Playground Area
Fourth of July Park is a Kernersville city park with an accessible playground, picnic shelter, restrooms, grills, sports courts, and more. This 17-acre park is steeped in Kernersville’s history. The park is named after the Fourth of July Committee, an equestrian group that historically held events at this location each Independence Day.
Fourth of July Park hosts many of the town’s biggest events including the Honeybee Festival, numerous 5K and fun run events, and of course our annual Fourth of July fireworks show. In early 2018 the Parks & Recreation Department identified a need for an accessible play unit and amenities within the Forsyth County. The new playground is wheelchair accessible, offers a new swing option, new surfacing at the play unit, repaved walkway and play elements throughout the trail system. Come to enjoy Forsyth County’s first accessible playground!
. The playground has the following features:
- Three different levels all accessible by ramps
- Recycled rubber floor that makes it easy to grip and keep shoes clean
- Multiple covered awnings and roofs to keep cool and shield from rain
- Swings that allow wheelchair access and for parents and children to swing together
- Bongo drums and xylophones for interactive play
- Handicap parking nearby
- Rock climbing walls
- Multiple slides from different levels
- A cool bridge feature
- A tunnel for crawling through
- Multiple climbing bars for experienced climbers
Fourth of July Park also features numerous walking trails, public restrooms, dog park, a skate park, tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, 3 picnic shelters, parking areas, sprayground, and grills. Despite being close to downtown and off many major roads, you feel like you are in a quiet wooded area that is perfect for an outdoor kid-friendly excursion. Whether you are planning a family get-together, birthday party, or just a fun retreat, Fourth of July Park is an excellent choice.
