The Triad of North Carolina is unique in that it hosts 8 unique indoor and outdoor skate parks that mix street-style skating elements with larger half-pipes, bowls, and verts.

The Triad gives many opportunities for kids and adults alike to learn, test their skills, and try new tricks at both paid and free skate parks in the area. What is also unique is that cities like Greensboro have both indoor and outdoor skate park options, while areas like Winston-Salem and Lexington have recently broke ground and created brand new and expansive skate parks that are kid-friendly and ride friendly (playing host to skates, scooters, bikes, and boards)

Asheboro Skate Park

The Asheboro Skate Park is located adjacent to Memorial Park, located at 825 South Church Street downtown. The park is a combination indoor/outdoor facility with over 2,500 sq. ft. of interior and 7,500 sq. ft. of exterior space. There is 10,000 sq. ft. of skating surface! In addition to the office, there is an indoor viewing area with bleachers, a concessions area, lockers, new restrooms, a party room, and an outdoor viewing area.

Above Board Skate Park (Indoor)

 

Above Board Skatepark is a 10,000 sq. foot warehouse skate park off of Randleman Rd. in Greensboro, NC. All participants are required to have a waiver on file. Those under 18 are required to wear a helmet and must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver for them. Above Board offers sessions, lessons, memberships, and a full-service shop and store as well

Glenwood Skate Park

 

Glenwood Skate Park is a 4,000-square-foot skate park that is in Greensboro and equipped with two ramps, rails, and a platform. The park may be compact but is deemed more of a “skate spot,” the technical term for a basketball court-sized area that can hold five to eight skaters at a time. It’s small but efficient, built to mimic conditions skaters find out on public streets.

Latham Skate Park is a 10,000-square-foot skate park that is in Greensboro and equipped with rails, ramps, and platforms. The park may be compact but has really fun elements like a big amoeba-like bowl with a 70’s style lipless roll in, banked wall, clamshell, deep end egg bowl with other sections with a street-style layout for younger riders trying new tricks.

Lexington, NC Skate Parks

Lexington Skate Park

 

Skateboards, freestyle bikes, inline skates, and non-electric scooters are all welcome at the Lexington Skate Park. The Lexington Skate Park was designed and built by one of the best skate park companies in the world, Team Pain. After hearing from citizens about the need for a skate park, the Town of Lexington incorporated Lexington Skate Park into the Recreation Master plan in 2013 and construction began in late 2018.

The park is primarily a street course full of fun transitions and street textures. There are 6 different types of handrails and flat rails throughout the park, and a variety of hips and ledges. The park also boasts a 10-foot deep pro bowl. One unique feature is the brick quarterpipe, which is made entirely of bricks from the Lexington Home Brands factory fire.

The Lexington Skate Park is located at the former site of Radcliffe Pool, which closed in 2014 before the opening of Lexington Aquatic Park.

This skate park is unsupervised. Users assume all risks inherent in the use of the skate park. All parents should require their children to wear protective equipment while using the skate park. North Carolina General Statute 99E (2003) provides that all participants and spectators at this facility assume all risks associated with this “recreational hazardous activity.” Skate with safety in mind and remember that weather conditions may create unsafe surfaces for skating.

Winston-Salem, NC Skate Parks

Winston Salem Fairgrounds Skate Park

 

The Winston Salem Skate Park has a 325-foot-long “pump” track, an undulating track of dips and banks that helps riders master the basics of how to balance and handle their bikes, skateboards, and roller blades without hurting themselves. The skate park also includes a shade structure, a water station for filling jugs and bottles, a seating area, and an emergency call station.

The skate park is located next to the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex across from Wake Forest Baseball Park. For directions, use gate 5 along Deacon Boulevard to enter the park.

Winston Salem Skate Park Safety

Winston Salem Skate Park Rules

  • Allowed: skateboards, roller skates, BMX bikes. Scooters are not allowed
  • Helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads are required to be worn by all participants at all times while they are on the skating surface. Other additional safety equipment is strongly recommended.
  • No glass containers, food, or beverages are allowed on the skating surface. Spills of any kind jeopardize the skaters.
  • No other items such as benches, tables, wood materials, or other objects intended to be used as ramps or jumps are allowed in the skate park facility.
  • No pets are allowed in the skate park area.
  • No skating against traffic on ramps or pipes.
  • Do not proceed down a ramp until clear of other skaters.
  • Hours of permitted use are from 9:00 am to dusk. It shall be unlawful for any person to enter or remain on the premises outside the hours posted.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, and drugs are prohibited.
  • The city of Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department reserves the right to close the facility for any circumstances deemed necessary, and to restrict entry to the facility, and to ask persons to leave the facility if any of the rules are not followed, or if unsafe behavior is observed.
