The park has grown tremendously over the years and added great amenities like dog parks, playgrounds, three picnic shelters, sports fields, and more. This park is very kid-friendly and a Winston-Salem staple that helps connects multiple neighborhoods and communities of families.

About Washington Park

Washington Park is a public park off of Broad Street in Winston Salem, NC. Once known as Sunnyside Park and Southside Park, the original 17 acres of designated parkland now known as Washington Park has grown to more than 75 acres with shelters, greenways, baseball fields, playgrounds, and a dog park. This park is perfect for active adults, larger kids who love sports, or young children who can take advantage of the green space and playground.

Washington Park New Upgrades

  • New connections on the north side of the park to the West Salem neighborhood, with paved and lighted walkways linking to Granville Drive and Shober Street
  • Replacement of the existing pedestrian bridge over Salem Creek with two bridges that would be capable of supporting vehicle traffic for emergency and maintenance
  • A revamped entry from Cascade Avenue that is more user-friendly to people who have difficulty with hills. And repair of the historic stairs and other features
  • The relocation of the dog park from the north to the south side
  • Mountain bike trails through the wooded north end of the park, along with natural-surface trails for woods walkers
  • Pickleball courts
  • New heated restrooms
  • New and refurbished picnic shelters
  • A new entry road from Broad Street
